Walking and talking

Apart from Jake the Cat and Mac the Dog, we have a pet peeve.

It’s when people-especially-Singaporeans say, “you can talk the talk, but can you walk the talk?”

Can someone please tell people who say that that the correct/original/true saying is “you can talk the talk, but can you walk the walk“? WTF does one mean by “walk the talk”? The only time I “walk the talk” is when I drop my phone and step on it.

The poor phone ๐Ÿ˜‰ It's so easy to talk and preach, but it's far more difficult to practise what one preaches. That's why one has to walk the “talk.” Walking the walk is fine..but is a different concept altogether. It's still good exercise ๐Ÿ™‚

Heh. Yes, I understand the notion of “practicing what you preach”, but the saying still goes “talk the talk” and “walk the walk”. ๐Ÿ™‚ But ecowalkthetalk.com is a great site!

    G'day,

Afraid you may have given Singaporeans too much credit for coining the phrase. The truncated (or mutated if you will) phrase might have originated from the U.S., although no one can pinpoint the accurate era. At least that's what I managed to find using Google. Here's one example: http://www.wordorigins.org/index.php/forums/vie

    Cheers.
