Baby Aglio Olio

Cradle capKai has sensitive skin, just like his Papa, who was ridiculed from a young age when he declared to the Singapore Armed Forces medical board that he was allergic to grass and to his own perspiration.

Those ain’t rosy cheeks you’re looking at on Kai’s cute little face. Those are dry, inflamed patches where he’s smeared his drool with his hands. We’re using up moisturizer faster than you can say “Dear Kiehls, we need more baby products!”

The other thing we’ve been instructed by the pediatrician to do is to smear olive oil on his scalp because the poor bub’s got quite a bad case of cradle cap. (Haha, you said cable crap! You did! You did!)

He’s also just had his second round of the rotavirus vaccine, so for the last four days he’s been passing what the pediatrician describes as “loose stools”, so we’ve been changing his diapers full of wanton poop more often as well.

Moisturizer, olive oil and poop make for a wondrous nursery smell.

    hello,

if the rash is really bad, try the lotion in physiogel's baby range? it contains fish oil to help. it's also usually what the pediatric dermatologists recommend.

if that's too hard to lay your hands on, you might want to consider sebamed baby lotion (or even face cream which is thicker and more moisturizing) which is great. have been using sebamed on my kid for a couple of years, but on the other hand, she doesn't really have a skin problem, so i don't know whether it would work as well for you.

    hths somewhat. ๐Ÿ™‚

Thanks for that. We're currently using SebaMed. 2nd tube already, and we just have to keep using it as long as he keeps smearing drool on his face.

If moisture is a problem, you can try aqueous cream. It's pure moisture. Available at Watsons or Guardian, usually a generic product, very cheap (few dollars for a huge tub) and free of additives and chemical. Works for dry irritated skin. Otherwise I also use the QV range which is more expensive.

An old fashioned remedy is to bathe baby in Guiness Stout. One can diluted in with bathwater in the baby bath-tub, seems to relieve all sorts of skin problems. No harm trying, it worked on me (when I was a child of course) and my daughter. Also good to rub on the scalp, that's how I ended up with so much hair, apparently.

I'd like to second the recommendation for aqueous cream, except that I used it for my son on his head, for the cradle cap. Sounds gross to put cream through hair, but I found it less messy than oil, cheap, and more effective. Throw a little cotton cap on the head if he's going to lie down.

for the cradle cap, can just use mustela newborn shampoo to get rid of cradle cap. no need to fuss with oil or cream ๐Ÿ™‚

My mum uses Drapolene for my sis and I when we were babies for any of our weird skin rashes (I have a lot of skin problems since young till now).

It's a pink box with a baby picture on the front. Quite good. Though best to ask the doc or something first before using.

You may try this cream called Drapolene. It comes in a pink box with a baby picture in the front. Though it says it's for nappy rash, since my sis and I were babies, my mum has been using it on us for any type of rashes or skin inflammation, etc.

I use it now to get rid of pimples. ๐Ÿ˜€

Hi Kai – my mommy used coconut oil… douse liberally and then comb out the hard bits, shampoo out the soft ones. Smells like a curry. Works in a hurry ! Love, Alex

Thank you Alex. Sorry for the late reply, I've been busy with all these publicity engagements – so many fans to please. It never ends. Thank you for the tip. I'll inform Mama and Papa and they'll go out and buy coconut oil for me. Sounds yum!

    Hey Mr Miyagi

You should get your hands on the Calendula Cream by California Baby. My son had a dry skin problem too and he's all good now. ๐Ÿ™‚ For the cradle cap, just make sure you massage his head with the baby shampoo during his baths. Should clear up nicely without the messiness of the oils.
