Oh wait, I forget, this is Singapore

“The Singapore School Transport Association reiterated on Saturday that making seat belts mandatory on school buses will reduce their seating capacity.”

Not making them mandatory will also reduce the number of kids taking school buses because they get hurt and killed. Idiots.

Wait, there’s more:

” ‘Implementation is likely to take longer. We need to give schools, parents and bus operators time to adjust to the changes. We want a smooth transition,’ said Mr Jeremy Yap, LTA’s group director for vehicle and transit licensing. “

Complete and utter crap given that they didn’t take very long to implement the very ill-advised no-taxi-stopping-except-at-taxi-stands-because-we-think-it’s-a-good-idea rule.

They’ll adjust to the changes only when more kids die and get hurt. Geddit?

No. They ferry their kids in bulletproof vehicles equipped with the humble seatbelts with an entourage of security and safety personnel.

i would like to offer a different view. Going down to the ground level, there are certain grouches that can be understood. Currently, most school buses (including mini vans) do not come with seat belts. To implement, who is going to bear the costs? Even if the drivers bear the costs, who is going to prevent them from passing it to the parents? Next, implementing seatbelts will translate to a reduction of capacity (mostly referring to mini-vans) which would result in a reduction in income for the drivers. (If you're the driver, how leh?) This also means that there will be a demand for more buses and more vehicles. This may post to be a problem that is already surging in the industry, that is:the lack of bus drivers. (ok la, maybe the chinamen will take it up.) Unless of course, you would like to take up that job instead; or dont complain to gahmen when you have to pay a lot more than what you are currently paying now lor. (different situation from taxis altogether)

I think this might be out of context but would using just one big ass belt that spans the whole seat work ?? That way i can secure 3 maybe 4 kids at one go… Or Velcro the kids to the seat …

    Just me thinking out loud

I dunno, but the excuse doesn't sit well with me. (wow, pun). Installing seat belts is a one-time expense. It's not as if they were disposable and had to be changed with every trip. If they can install ERP gantries so quickly and broadly to “combat” a problem, surely seat belts?

Speaking of ERP… did you see the new one in front of the the Fullerton… man o man… that is pure punishment.

But i think putting seatbelts might also will be dangerous..
If there's accident, without seatbelts, the kids might have the chance to get out, but with seatbelts, they might just get stuck. Well pros and cons la…

In front of the Fullerton? Isn't that already within the CBD? Or is
that a F1 gantry for the racing cars?

  14. Mr Miyagi Avatar

Yeah, but stuck and are still mostly alive is better than dead and
    unbelted.

I said the same thing too. The CBD is now split into MCBD More Central Business District.. So get this … coming from Orchard.. you get 1 at Tangs… keep going you get another at Cathay… keep going you get another at Fullerton. So the more central you plan to go the more you pay… And get this… it's bi directional… that means leaving fullerton you also have to pay.

It's just after Anderson bridge so not on the F1 route but if the F1 cars go the wrong way… they will get summon.
