No torch, no medals, no records, no nothing…

The torch relay bypassed Singapore probably because protests are only to be held indoors, with a licence, in designated areas. I dunno.

Then there’s news that the Youth Olympics might be a Games without medals or records. That is the sucks! Might as well not have athletes.

I mean, they even give out prizes in primary schools for egg and spoon races and I personally would have had a record in my school’s hall of shame for most number of eggs broken.

No medals, no records, so no incentive lor.
A bit cheapskate by the committee leh.

“Can win, win lor. No chance, then relak one corner and wait for R&R lor.”

Might as well call YOG an international-scale school excursion to Singapore.
Oh wait, there’s already something liddat, it’s called World Scout Jamboree.

“Lam Pin Min beat me to it again. I was just about to post this up, and I log on and find that he’s beaten all of us to the blog again. Well done, colleague.” Miyagi.

I was reading this “no medals” post and then decided to write a comment. But I scrolled too quickly and came across the Mas Selamat entry and saw this solid quote from Miyagi. That’s exactly what young athletes at the Youth Olympics should be taught. They may not come up first in a race, but they should be proud of themselves and offer their spirit of sportsmanship to the winner by congratulating him or her. That’s the true spirit of the Olympics.

“You lost? Never mind. You did your best. Now train and try harder next time. We still love you.”

It does sound ridiculous not to award any medals or records. No wonder they call it Games…not competition. But even when children play games at parties, someone will end up being first, and deserve a token of appreciation.
