Window or aisle seat?

We know you’re supposed to belt up when you’re in a car, but when you’re part of an organisation that can’t afford a proper passenger van or bus to take you to and from work, you’ll just have to deal with hanging on for dear life:

Window or aisle seat

Yes, plastic chairs on the back of a lorry! And god knows what happened to the guy in the middle seat with nothing to hang on to!

Does anyone know how insurance covers this?

Finally this issue has been highlighted.

It Was high time that the authorities clamp down on this method of transportation of passengers en mass.

Instead, they issued this sticker and a limit on the number of passengers that you can carry at the back of a lorry, pick up, van, etc…

It puzzles me and greatly upsets me that this kind of potential transportation hazzard can be passed by the LTA/TP. Pick ups, vans, lorries are built to carry only 2/4 passengers cos they have 2/4 seats in them. Whatever space left behind is meant for the transporation of goods. Prob you can turn a blind eye and allow 1 or 2 persons to jagar the good behind.

But when you have 8, 10, 15 pple at the back of the lorry sitting down or squatting down or sitting on wooden planks and chairs, that is just plain silly.

If you’ve seen how fast vehicles travel on road nowadays, sometimes you wonder and just cant help me but wait and expect to witness a horrible accident happen so you can say ‘I told you so’.

Should the lorry jam brake or hit another vehicle, the passengers at the back will lurge forward. Worse still, should another vehicle hit this lorry at the back with high speed, all the passengers will lurge backwards and land on the rear vehicle or on the ground.

They can make it law for all car passengers to put on a safety belt, even for the rear passengers and for babies/chewren in child seats (or risk a fine) but yet they can allow passengers at the rear of lorries with no safety harness whatsoever.

Dont you guys find this amusing?

Im waiting for the day some 5 or 10 of such passengers get hurt in such an accident. THEN the authorities will look into this matter again. They might not revoke the permit to carry passengers behind cos that will show that they made a mistake. Maybe they’ll make it compulsory for all of such passengers to put on a helmet. Hahahaha!

I’m quite surprised that Singapore actually allows this. I’ve seen it a couple of times while there.

To be honest, I’ve never seen it in any part of Malaysia!

If the lorry suddenly jerks forward, those passengers on the PVC chairs risk tumbling backwards too :p
