Jail for seditious bloggers

Blogopoly Tm

You will be held responsible for what you write.

The Straits Times called this evening and asked for a coupla quotes as I set up shop to teach our Friday evening gymnastics classes. I was then told that two of the bloggers charged had been sentenced to custodial sentences (1 month and 3 months 1 month & 1 day).

I told the Straits Times that this sends a clear signal to everyone that making racist remarks is not to be tolerated. I was then asked whether the sentence was too harsh. I replied that if you slap someone, you can be charged with causing hurt and be sentenced to a custodial sentence of up to a year.

I said a fair bit more, but can’t remember because I had to lug several other pieces of equipment for class. Gotta wait for the newspaper tomorrow.

iTunes is playing an illegal copy of The Rest of the Dream from the album “Stolen Moments” by John Hiatt of which I have the original CD.

Freedom of speech is freedom to say racist comments. Mature people can handle it. Don’t be fooled by the thought control coming from the Singapore government. You have a right to make racist comments. I’m an American and we do it all the time, and we work it out, and agreements are made about what is allowed and what is beyond acceptable.

But almost everything is open and everybody can voice their opinion. Democratic societies can figure this out themselves, and don’t need a Nanny government to tell them what is right and wrong.

If you over the line, you will be condemned by society at large. Racist comments are mostly killed here in the U.S. by peer pressure, not government arrests.

    Do you agree or disagree?

Carl : Sorry, this is Singapore, this isn’t America. In their eyes, it has been decided that peer pressure will not work in their eyes and the people of Singapore would run wild over a few comments.

Thanks for jogging my memory Carl, that’s what I told the ST: Whatever comments are made on the one side is usually ‘moderated’ by an contrary opinion.

“people must be protected from discrimination by virtue of their race, but you cannot ring-fence their ideas. The moment you say that any idea system is sacred, whether it’s a religious belief system or a secular ideology, the moment you declare a set of ideas to be immune from criticism, satire, derision, or contempt, freedom of thought becomes impossible.”

Freedom of speech is existent everywhere.
Freedom of taught (thought) is existent everywhere.
Comment, in a certain island in the North Pacific, you can say what you want. The moment you step somewhere where you are not wanted…Ka-blooey ( not you, but you might return home to find your family char siew everywhere. )
The cops would scratch their heads and be symphathetic.
That is real life dudes. Not the sterile environment we live in. Where the bad boys hold their twelve irons in their hands and nothing else.
That old man had made it clear, it is a fact of life.
Deal with it, accept it. Quit complaining about it.

How would you like it if you belong to the group where everyone is whooping ya at all , ALL, perceived ills and wrongs.
Please watch Spike Lee’s movie — Do the right thing.
Takeaway from all this is, I remember my MT teacher’s about the proverb of killing the chicken to warn the monyet. those two boys are SOL, they set themselves up.

    Peace out.
