What’s this? Nabeh, the ‘E’ in ‘E-filing’ stands for ‘Electronic’. ‘Electronic’ means it should operate 24/7. Right? Huh? Huh? Huh?

I want to declare my corporate taxes! And you make it so hard?

Nabeh, I get all my papers together, sit in front of the computer, all glad that this is such a connected city, and you tell me:

The ECI E-Filing system is currently not in operation.

Our operating hours are as follows:

Day Operating Hours
(in Singapore Time)
Monday To Friday 8 am to 9 pm
Saturday 8 am to 5 pm
Eve of these Public Holidays:
– Christmas Day
– New Year’s Day
– Chinese New Year 8 am to 4 pm
Sunday and Public Holidays Not In Operation

The gremlins that push the buttons to make the screen light up work only weekdays between 9am and 5pm.

    Maybe, the system is not ready to handle incoming data so after office hours.. they have little elves sitting in the back office of IRAS keying in all the printed data (that we entered during the day time – we key in, and they immediately print on paper) into the tax database…. nyek nyek… im so gona get sued

    I suspect the computers are not actually computers, but tonnes of PES E NSF using abacus.

    Hence it doesn’t work on weekends lor. Book out mah.

    Welcome to yet another recent Singapore goverment SNAFU! you know its funny, they are trying to make everything more efficent by making it electronic, but they are actually making it worse. Case in point remember the MOE servers crashing cause all the Dragon babies just finished their o’s this year and THey made it compulsory for all of them to aplly for their school choices online. that one still ok, but then they forget to take into consideration HOW many people will be using the server, and wala! the freaking servers all crash. Win liao lor!

    My mum and I regularly run into problems with messages such as “Server is too busy, please try again later”. It shows that either there’s not enough hardware backing their system or that their code really reeks.

    I managed to e-file last month, although there were a couple of problems I ran into, like how it took 10 minutes before it processed the 3 lines I entered into the form.

    It’s not surprising then that my parents still insist on filing by paper, because it works and it doesn’t tell you that it’s not available.

    Incidentally I know one of the people who maintain the SingPass system. I hear that there are a grand total of 2 staff behind it. Somebody must have been smoking crack when they did their cost-benefit analysis.

    Timed out….
    Try some other time in office hours….
    too long time to process request…
    Strangely some times asking username and password for home page… Stop at front gate so no more issues 🙂
