In space, no one can hear your brain freeze
Does anyone know where Icee can be bought in Singapore? 7-11 used to sell them, and I thought I blogged about it, but Naomi reminded me I had merely talked about Slurpee, which is like a poorer cousin that Taufik sells.
What happened? Has the Inconvenient Truth caused the demise of the sweatered polar bear? If so, this calls for a haiku to Icee.
No, this calls for a William McGonagall-styled tribute:
I used to enjoy your colourful range
Green blue red and sometimes orange
Then stick out my tongue for all to see
You gave much more than bubble tea
How that sold I’m not too sure
With their bubble-caused choking fearOn every warm day you gave us cheer
And every brain freeze we hold so dear
Where have you gone, Icee Polar Bear
Has global warming made you rare?

Gosh, that really brings memories. I still remember the brightly pink and blue stripe cups. Those were a personal favourite as a kid, and were readily sold in 7-11 in the late 80’s. By the 90’s it pretty much disappeared and I havent seen even one since.
I miss the ICEE polar bear.

I remember them being sold at the old Cold Storage/Ikea building at Katong years back. I believe they left before Ikea did though.
Don’t think they’re around in SG anymore.

i love the grape flavour! that was awesome. i think it’s disappeared from Singapore…where even Dunkin’ Donuts and Dominoes don’t call home anymore. But Icee can be found in…Perth, Western Australia! Strange, but true.

i used to buy icee form thomson plaza.. or yaohan as it was called.
slurpee and icee are actually the same thing.. read tht somewhere.. not sure if its true. 7-11 has this deal with icee where they sell it under their own brand. I doubt the on in SG is icee though.. since they use stuff like coke to make it.

They can be bough
In the 60’s 7 – 11 sold Slurpees’ but the drink was like small ice crystals with either coke or cherry fluid around the ice. Icees’ were sold at a different store and were the same as slurpee is today. 7 – 11 bough the rites to icee. They changed to selling the slurpee using the icee formula but still using the slurpee name.
