DigitalLifeTo Terry, Kormmandos, Annibrow, James and everyone else who’ve noticed and emailed me lately asking why I haven’t been heard on the mrbrown show. Thanks for asking.

Well, I haven’t been on the mrbrown show for a few weeks now because it’s time to move on to other things.

But it’s been a great year and a half writing and performing the silly skits that have made the show popular, and I’ve really enjoyed my time collaborating with mr brown and some of our guests (as well as being the hapless customer in the Zhng My Car series, and the hapless ‘customer’ in the Bak Chor Mee skit).

I have to thank Kin Mun for coming up with the crazy idea of having a podcast in the first place, and remember, we started out with an iPod and one of those plug-in mics you buy from the iShop or Apple Centre. Nothing stopped the occasional recording, and I remember a serious bout of flu keeping Kin Mun at home, necessitating the complex set-up of Skype and other software which allowed us to remotely ‘host’ a thirty minute show talking about such important national issues as ‘what is toilet paper called in Mandarin’?

The answer I offered (that we used to call toilet paper ‘shit paper’ in Mandarin) made Kin Mun laugh so hard he coughed himself off the chair, knocking out cables and having to set up the setup again. At least that was what he told me. I couldn’t see for sure, and had to take his word for it.

As for the very popular character ‘Johnny’, played inimitably by Kin Mun, credit is due to our friend Daryl Sng, who, on a pub outing with us, said, ‘eh, you know it would be very funny to have a Singaporean version of MTV’s Pimp My Ride, called ‘Zhng My Car”, or something. I paraphrase, but you know what I mean lah.

ZaobaoWorking on the podcast also made me realise that people take nonsense seriously, and it was both stressful and humbling to have guests ask to appear on the show. To date, we’ve had radio djs, film-makers, actors, singers, bands, writers, fellow bloggers, and according to Kin Mun, we’ve also stashed away recordings of taxi drivers, colleagues and the laksa auntie downstairs of the mrbrown show studio in Katong.

I’ve had friends who’ve made jokes, laughed at their own jokes, and then paused to ask me, ‘eh, is that going to be on the podcast?’ Nothing was sacrosanct, except things deemed sacrosanct at common law and acts of parliament.

I’m now looking forward to doing my own stuff again, and that includes writing (hint: if you’ve got writing gigs, let me know), and I’d like to thank every listener who has been supporting the show all this while. Youse rocks!

Mixed feelings. Happy for Mr Miyagi for venturing into new direction, sad coz somehow mrbrownshow has lost its other significant.

Mr Miyagi, many many thanks for bringing so much laughter into my life and wish you success in all your endeavour.

BTW, going to be PaPa soon izit? hehehe…

    Wah lao,
today the mrbrownshow podcast (with Imran) sounds like lao sai!

I wrote to Mr Brown la, could not let him get away with such a poor edition of the mrbrownshow.
Without you, it may look ok, but with Imran, I will definitely switch off the podcast after 1 min.
    Very lame.
Even Mr Brown sounds like he knows it. At the end of that podcast, he “signed off” or “sighed off”.

    Jiak lart!

Again, thanks for your kind comments.

As for the mrbrown show in its current incarnation, I reckon it’ll do great. They’ve got a great team on board, and Imran’s an experienced writer with a couple of years of television work under his belt.

I’m sure if you gave them a bit of time to gel, they’ll be chugging along just fine.

We’ve all had “lau-sai” shows, and while it’s a good thing you only remember the non-lau-sai ones I’ve been involved with, I can vouch that the new team will have a string of hits. Not every show can be a gem.

    Hi Miyagi,
I’ve always been a lurker and now that I’ve heard the podcast on RoboBeng…

I have to really admit that I’m feeling really sad cause I won’t be hearing this voice of yours again.
As what other have mentioned, you made people laugh till they fell over chairs, and laugh uncontrollably on the MRT.

I don’t usually feel so emotional over such issues, but this is one time where i sincerely feel so.

Take care and good luck in your future endeavours. I wish you great success and in whatever you love to do.

    Hi Pals and Miyagi,

I noticed that I’ve been turning off MB podcast midway a couple of times. It just lose the “spark”. Sometimes it is plain crude. There is no wit and humour at all.

I start to suspect Miyagi is the spark behind the previous successful podcast.

sounds a bit slow but i had initially thought that mr miyagi was away on reservist or something like that that’s why we didn’t get to hear him around. it’s a bit sad that mr miyagi has to leave but then again, people have to move on…

mr miyagi, you’ll be sorely missed!! all the best in your future plans!! hope you’ll be able to work with mr brown on other projects! ;)

Picture 11.pngFunny how the Channel Newsasia text version of the interview manages to mash up quotes from mr brown and myself, then attribute them only to me. (Yes, we are doing a lot of things together, but we’re just friends, ok? Not even a Brokeback Hill here.)

We also spoke about podcasting and how much fun we’re having with it, so they put that into another text article on their site.

Not that anyone’s interested in this matter right now, now that there’s that Nanyang Polytechnic Sex Scandal thing going on. Blardy hell, now no-one will download our podcasts!

For me, I think mr brown is too stressed, tats why the show didn’t sound too good. To churn out fresh ideas and new podcast to muse people like us every day is not easy. I think he should try alternate day instead. And I also feel that this whole blog thing, beside jokes is also about friends, gatherings, TKSS; talk cock sing song. And I love the element of surprises every time the new show is on. Every time have to guess who’s behind the voice. And those bar leh, bar leh NGs, laughters and comments! FRIENDS, true friends something quite hard to find nowadays. I am drawn by this more than any of the above! Jokes can be heard everywhere but to leave behind a deep personal impression, to me is that friendship thing. I used to love the shows, later I found out that they have interviews, talks, I began to listen carefully to these too, personal mah! That why “Reservist Talk” is one of my favoriteand this one too “www.mrbrown.com/blog/2005/04/browncast_prima.html”. I think also, cannot sound too commercialize lor. Just my two cents.

    mr miyagi,

thanks for the jokes and fun from the MB show.

for the past few(quite many actually) podcasts, i found that they have been very lame and i found myself not even laughing once after the podcasts have ended.

Well, after reading about your absence, I can put 2 and 2 together.

sigh… the stress of having a podcast everyday due to sponsors and the absence of mr miyagi has resulted in the worst podcasts since its creation.

    good luck miyagi :)
